Takapuna and Newmarket QCM (Quality Control Manager)
Lesley has so much to offer and just by reading her story it will make you want to get your qualification and start your career or travel the world. The world is yours for the taking, make it happen!
Lesley comes from London where she did her apprenticeship and worked for Vidal Sassoon in London as a colourist. She came to New Zealand work in hairdressing training for 2 years, then worked with Paul Serville touring New Zealand & Australia holding seminars & shows in conjunction with Schwarzkopf. She went back to the UK and managed a pub & restaurant for a couple of years. After returning to New Zealand again she opened her own salon in Tauranga and was there for a number of years.
She realised that tutoring is her true passion and went back into training, managing her campus for 9 years.
We are so lucky to have her here at Premier for the past 5 years, she keeps on inspiring other tutors and sharing her excellent hairdressing skills with our students.
We asked a few questions about why she wanted to be a hairdresser and where she finds her inspiration.
Why did you want to be a hairdresser?
Well I actually wanted to be a painter and sculptor but my family owned a salon and was short staffed and so I did my apprenticeship through the salon. I have never looked back because I realised that this is was my destiny.
What do you like love most about your job now?
Seeing students in the industry, it’s very rewarding to know that you helped to change a person's life.
When you are not at work, where would we find you?
Many people do not know this about me, after I had my 3 daughters, I discovered the beautiful world of bodybuilding. I entered a few competitions and was successful. I ended up 3rd in the world and 8th for Miss Bodybuilding Universe.
“My inspiration comes many things. Every day gives me inspiration as one day is never the same as the last. The past can never come again and tomorrow is the future.”
If you can choose to be any animal which one would you be and why?
Lion, they command respect and are genuinely grateful and powerful all at the same time.
What’s your best advice to someone entering this industry?
Get as much education as you can, always attend anything you can attend - you can always learn, doesn’t matter where you go. Look at the client and think what can I do for this person. A part you always leaves with that client. Never look at it as just a job.
