Let's welcome Lee, the barber tutor in our Wellington campus.
I’m Lee Millhouse and I started my career in a small salon called Saks in the north of the UK. I was an apprentice so my job mainly included reception duties, sweeping the floor, making coffees, washing hair plus 1 day training a week at college and I did this for 2 and half years until I qualified.
The highlight of my career was working at Akin Barber and shop in Dubai. This was my first time living away from home and it was just a mind blowing experience. Here I got the chance to cut the hair of some very wealthy and well known people. We had the singers from the Imagine Dragons come in, we also had football agents and social media gurus - it was insane, and a big learning curve for me at that point in my career.
I started tutoring recently and I’ve helped teach a lot of junior barbers throughout my career - but I don’t think that counts as tutoring haha. The best aspect is being able to share the knowledge I have obtained over the years from a career that’s been great to me to others who can take this anywhere they go with them.
My inspiration is Josh Lamonica of Menspire; I like watching his methods and techniques.
My best advice for someone entering the industry is to be as open minded as you can, this is an amazing career where your always learning and developing and that right there is the beauty of it.
