Winter is coming…. Even though you may think the winter sun and rain is not damaging your hair and skin, think again. The cold air sucks out the natural moisture from your body, leaving it dry, itchy and weak.
Here are a few tips to keep your hair and skin flawless this winter.
Don’t overuse the aircon.
When it’s cold outside we like to pump up the heat up the aircon as soon as we walk into our office or home. Aircon heat actually dries out the air and that is a no-no for your skin. Keep the temperature stable at 23 degrees in the winter.
Switch to a different product in the winter.
In the winter season your skin changes to adjust to the changing temperatures, so help your skin to adjust a little easier. When you realise your skin is starting to feel a bit drier than usual, try not to use products with alcohol and fragrance in them so that your skin can rebuild its natural body oils.
Don’t forget that your lips should be part of your skincare ritual. Applying a moisturizing balm can help heal and prevent your lips from cracking in the cold. Try using an oil-based moisturizer for your hair to overcome that brittle texture, breakage and split ends.
Thinking of getting those winter clothes from the top shelf?
Keep in mind that when you do wear wool and rough fabrics your skin might get dry, itchy and even irritated. Maybe wear a cotton or silk blouses under your woollies; that will keep your body temperature stable and keep the dry skin away. Same goes for your hair, never leave the house with wet hair as that will make your hair freeze in really cold temperatures and prone to breakage and split ends. Try wearing a silk lined hat or scarf to keep your hair protected from the cold.
Keep that water coming.
Even though you might be cold and just want to drink hot beverages all day long, keep in mind the more water you drink the better it will be for your skin and hair.
When you are hydrated on the inside it shows on the outside.
If you are drinking a lot of water and still your hair looks dull and dry and your skin has lost its glow then maybe think about putting some Omega 3 or Omega 6 fatty acids, such as fish oil or flaxseed oil into your diet.
So, no need to worry about going to outside - keep these tips in mind to take care of your hair and skin and remember to smile - that’s the best accessory you will ever have.
